Selecting the right financial indicators is essential for assessing your institution's overall financial health. In keeping with this objective, JBL Associates, Inc., and HEMS have joined forces to provide Peer Comparison Data Reports. Peer Comparison Data Reports depict your institution's financial strengths and weaknesses relative to a peer group of institutions.

The process begins with the selection of the desired ratios and peer group of institutions. You can recommend your own list of institutions or utilize our computer-generated sample of ten institution matches. Eight years of data are then collected from your institution and the peer institutions. Our comparative analysis of these data will allow you to determine your institution's financial position relative to these institutions and to identify trends.

The reported ratios are easily understood and provide data regarding each aspect of institutional finance:

  • Financial Flexibility: How restricted are your institution's finances? Does your institution have the discretionary resources to make expenditure decisions, or are the bulk of the funds earmarked for specific purposes?
  • Demand-Related Revenue: Are revenues from your institution's programs and services at sufficient levels? Are they increasing or decreasing over time?
  • Working Capital: Are sufficient funds available to support day-to-day operating needs? Are these funds decreasing or increasing over time?
  • Non-Demand Related Revenue: Are revenues from outside sources sustaining historical levels, or are they increasing or decreasing?
  • Changes in Institutional Mission: Are proportions of your institution's expenditures changing and in line with what is important to your institution?
