National Science Foundation's Advanced Technological Education (NSF ATE): A Summative Evaluation of a Training and Support Services Program
HEMS evaluated a three-year $1 million model demonstration project titled: "Bridge to Advanced Technological Education and Employment," funded by the National Science Foundation's Advanced Technological Education (NSF ATE) program. This innovative program of training and support services was designed and delivered to bridge the gap between educationally disadvantaged adults and the new economy. The program prepared immigrant, "welfare-to-work," and other disadvantaged adults for entry-level employment as skilled technicians in manufacturing and other high-tech industries, as well as for two-year college certificate and associate programs in manufacturing technology and lifelong learning. HEMS conducted a summative evaluation of the Bridge project’s outcomes and impacts at its Chicago and Detroit pilot test sites. Our evaluation plan as well as progress reports and other program Information can be downloaded from the project’s Web site. HEMS also evaluated a five-year, $5 million national Center of Excellence in Advanced Technological Education funded by the National Science Foundation for The South Carolina State Board for Technical and Comprehensive Education in Columbia, South Carolina. In addition to this Center, HEMS evaluated a three-year $1.5 million "Exemplary Faculty" faculty development project for the South Carolina State Board for Technical and Comprehensive Education. This was also funded by the NSF ATE program.
