Services: Evaluation

HEMS provides extensive formative and summative evaluation services with an emphasis on quantitative evaluations of program impact using quasi-experimental designs and online data collection and analysis systems. Paul Bucci, Vice President and Director of HEMS, has over 20 years of experience in designing and evaluating higher education interventions, especially in the areas of science and technology education and education reform.

Gaining Early Awareness and Readiness for Undergraduate Programs (GEAR UP)

HEMS is evaluating the Pennsylvania State GEAR UP Project in Philadelphia and Harrisburg school districts with the assistance of an online student tracking and data collection system.

National Science Foundation's Advanced Technological Education (NSF ATE) Program

HEMS evaluated a three-year $1 million model demonstration project that prepared immigrant, "welfare-to-work," and other disadvantaged adults for entry-level employment as skilled technicians in manufacturing and other high-tech industries.
